Rain Accompanied By Cycling Winds With A Speed Of 54 Km/Jam Makes 4 Big Tree In Sampit Tumbang

Strong winds fell trees in the center of Sampit City, East Kotawaringin Regency, Central Kalimantan, but did not cause casualties.

"Temporary reports there are four large trees that fell. Thankfully there were no casualties in this incident," said Head of BPBD East Kotawaringin Rihel in Sampit, Friday, November 18.

Strong winds that came with rain at around 13.00 WIB, according to him, caused trees to fall in the Taman Kota area, Iskandar Street, HM Arsyad Street, and South Kopi Street.

"Officers are cleaning up fallen tree trunks," said Rihel as quoted by Antara.

According to the Meteorology and Climatology Agency of Haji Asan Sampit Meteorological Station, when strong winds cover the center of Sampit City, the maximum speed of wind is 27 knots or 54 km/hour.

Residents driving generally stop their vehicles and seek shelter when strong winds and rain come.

"Many large old trees on the side of the road, that's why I prefer to stop for fear of falling trees," said Rahmat, a resident of Sampit who was riding a motorcycle when strong winds came.

Rahmat hopes that the local government will check the condition of large trees on the side of the road and cut old trees or tree trunks or weathered so as not to collapse and hit residents during rain and strong winds.
