Vice President Ma'ruf Amin's Message Asks Papuan Young Civil Servants: Don't Just Work Ordinary

JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin asked young state civil servants from Papua Province not to work mediocrely to improve the welfare and progress of their region.

"Don't be ordinary. I think this message is also relevant for the young Papuan civil servants who are present today. I ask for work not to be ordinary, but to be extraordinary and earlier, that this division is the key to prosperity being a game changer changes in Papua," said Vice President Ma'ruf Amin at the Vice Presidential Palace, Jakarta as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, November 16.

The Vice President conveyed this while giving briefings (Presidential Lecture) to 42 participants in the Piloting Apprentice Program for Papuan ASN.

Vice President Ma'ruf also conveyed a number of messages to young Papuan civil servants.

"First, young Papuan civil servants must strengthen visionary, optimistic, and constructive thinking, while continuing to care for Papua's plural social ties. Create moderate, inclusive, and tolerant Papuan values," said the Vice President.

Second, young civil servants are expected to be able to deepen their insights and knowledge by taking advantage of open digital access, including in understanding global trends that can affect the direction of development in Papua and Indonesia in the future.

"There have been many changes in the bureaucratic paradigm which are certainly useful in improving public services for the people of Papua, as well as developing personal competencies and careers," added the Vice President.

Third, the Vice President requested that the service innovations learned from each Papua ASN internship location should be spread and developed in Papua collaboratively.

"So, during this internship, apart from being for yourself, it is also passed on to other friends. I congratulate you on participating in the internship. I invite young Papuan ASN brothers to become local champions in planning and realizing Papua's glorious future. You can, you are able!" said the vice president.

Vice President Ma'ruf said that with the presence of five provinces in the Land of Papua, it was hoped that the division would create a leap in regional development and empower indigenous Papuans.

"I also hope that the division of the Papua Province will bring public services closer to all people in all corners of Papua. I ask the acting governor to look for innovative steps according to the context and specifics of the region, don't go as usual," said the Vice President.

The internship program was designed by the State Administration Agency (LAN) as a follow-up to Presidential Instruction Number 9 of 2022 concerning the Acceleration of Welfare Development in Papua and West Papua.

The Papuan ASN internship activity takes place from November 7 to December 21 2022 and is attended by participants who are potential ASN from 18 regional apparatus organizations in Papua Province, with details of 33 native Papuans (OAP) and nine non-OAP.

The main competencies to be built in these activities are regional development planning, regional financial management, procurement of government goods and services, as well as accountability, and the government's internal control system.

After receiving debriefing at LAN, the participants then carried out internships at a number of ministries and local governments, namely the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas, the Ministry of Finance, LKPP and BPKP, the Provincial Governments of West Java, East Java, Central Java, D.I. Yogyakarta, City Government of Malang, Tangerang City, Surabaya City, and Banyuwangi Regency.
