Meeting The Egyptian Prime Minister, Vice President Ma'ruf Discussed Funding And Hopes For Technology Transfer

JAKARTA - Vice President Maruf Amin held a bilateral meeting with Egyptian Prime Minister (PM), Mostafa Kamal Madbouly. The two discussed various issues related to climate change, funding and technology transfer.

The meeting took place at the Egyptian PM Office Pavilion in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, on Tuesday 8 November Indonesian time.

Based on a press release received in the early hours of Wednesday, November 9, the Vice President also expressed his appreciation for Egypt's role in global efforts to address climate issues.

The Vice President assessed that as developing countries, Egypt and Indonesia need to continue to encourage the realization of international commitments in overcoming this global issue, from all aspects.

"Including funding, capacity building, and technology transfer from developed countries. Egyptian leadership at COP27 and Indonesia at the G20 is a momentum to deal with various crucial issues related to the economy and the environment," said the Vice President.

In the trade sector, the Vice President said that the cooperation between the two countries continued to increase. This can be seen from the increase in the value of trading by more than 50 percent, reaching 1.86 billion US dollars.

Therefore, the Vice President assessed, to further improve this good performance, the formation of the Joint Trade Committee and the development of the Preferential Trade Agreement between the two countries can be followed up immediately.

Meanwhile, in the field of education, the Vice President expressed his gratitude for providing scholarships and facilities for Indonesian students who are currently studying in Egypt.

In the future, he hopes that this good relationship in the field of education can continue to be strengthened and more Indonesian students can study in Egypt, and vice versa.

"Currently there are more than 10,300 Indonesian students in Egypt. I hope that the cooperation between the two countries can continue to be strengthened, including in providing protection for Indonesian students and students in Egypt," he hoped.

Welcoming the various things conveyed by the Vice President, PM Kamal Madbouly revealed that Egypt will also continue to strive to improve bilateral relations with Indonesia that have existed for a long time, especially cooperation in the economic sector.

PM Kamal Madbouly also revealed that Egypt continues to want to strengthen cooperation in the field of education. In fact, according to him, the large number of Indonesian students in Egypt is a happiness for the government and the people of Egypt.

"We have Al-Azhar University which currently accommodates a large number of Indonesian students, which amounts to 11,000 and this is a source of happiness for us," he said.
