JAKARTA - Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar said the birth of National Santri Day (HSN) was a momentum for students to continue working and play an active role in the progress of the nation. "National Santri Day is a momentum for the rise of nationalism and total service to the nation, after the historical record of the role of students has been eliminated by the New Order," said Muhaimin at the National Santri and Inspirative Islamic Boarding School "Santri of The Year 2022" at Nusantara IV Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Saturday, October 29. In his statement, Muhaimin said the number of Islamic boarding schools which reached around 28,000 and the number of students of more than 5 million became extraordinary strengths for the progress of the Indonesian nation. "If the students are prosperous, it is almost certain that the Indonesian nation is prosperous," he added. The award of the Santri of The Year 2022 was held by the Islamic Archipelago Center (INC) in collaboration with the MPR RI and the Pesona Council in commemoration of National Santri Day. INC Director Moch Aly Taufiq said the award was for the younger generation of students to be inspired and follow in the footsteps of santri figures who have taken part in various sectors. In addition, the award is also to commemorate the services of students and scholars in building the Indonesian nation. "The ulama and students have a big role in the expulsion of the invaders and the development of the Indonesian nation. However, many people do not know. This award is intended so that all generations of the nation do not forget the role of santri and ulama," said Aly Taufiq. A number of figures and pesantren who were selected as Santri of The Year 2022 include Badrus Shaleh or Raedu Basha from Pusi, Madura, East Java, for the category of Art and Culture.
