JAKARTA - China hopes that the conflict between Russia and Ukraine can be resolved beyond the battlefield, as the top diplomat talks to Moscow diplomats on Friday.

Speaking by telephone, Foreign Minister Wang Yi told his colleague Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov that Beijing hopes the Ukraine conflict will be resolved through diplomatic negotiations.

"China hopes all parties will intensify their efforts to find diplomatic solutions to the conflict and achieve de-escalation and resolution of the current situation at the political level, including through negotiations," he explained.

Wang Wenbin added that the two top diplomats agreed on the need to defuse conflicts, as well as prevent the use of weapons of mass destruction to avoid humanitarian disasters.

It is known that the war in Ukraine, which has been going on since Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a special military operation on February 24, has not shown any signs of easing, as the two warring sides have accused each other of using nuclear power in recent times.

The invasion of Russia into Ukraine has also sparked the biggest confrontation with the West since the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis during the Cold War, as the Soviet Union and the United States approach nuclear war.
