SEMARANG - As many as 13 houses in the coastal area of Tambaklorok, Semarang City, Central Java, were damaged by the sea waves because the embankment to block the tidal waves in the area was broken.

Secretary of North Semarang Subdistrict, Margo Haryadi, said that the embankment for the containment of sea waves in Tambaklorok was broken on Sunday, December 6 evening.

"The majority of the damage occurred in the kitchen and bathroom," he said as quoted by Antara, Monday, December 7.

As a result of the incident, he continued, the residents had fled to the homes of their neighbors and relatives.

Apart from residents' houses on the coast, sea waves due to bad weather also damaged fishermen's boats.

Margo explained that basic needs aid for the victims had also been distributed.

He asked residents on the coast of Semarang City to remain vigilant about bad weather for some time to come.

He also appealed to residents whose houses were damaged by the waves of sea water to stay evacuated temporarily.
