The Kremlin said it had not seen an opportunity to improve its relationship with Britain, regarding the appointment of Rishi Sunak as the new prime minister, while the Conservative Party politician promised to continue good relations with Ukraine.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia had not seen any prerequisites, reasons, or hopes for establishing a more constructive relationship with Britain.
"No, at this time, we have not seen the prerequisites, reasons, or hopes for some positive changes in the future," Peskov said.
Peskov stressed that Russia maintains its openness and readiness to discuss the most complex issues at the negotiating table, but as long as it does not harm Moscow's national interests.
As previously reported, Rishi Sunak promised the same support as his predecessor for Ukraine, when speaking with President Volodymyr Zelensky on a call.
"The Prime Minister said Britain's support for Ukraine would be as strong as before under his leadership, and President Zelensky could rely on his Government to stand in continued solidarity," the British Prime Minister's Office said in a statement.
Both sides support further economic sanctions against Russia in an effort to pressure Moscow. PM Sunak also hopes to meet President Zelensky soon.
It is known that Rishi Sunak became the 57th British prime minister, after meeting King Charles III at Buckingham Palace, London on Tuesday, to replace Liz Truss who resigned last week.
