JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan together with the Governor of Tokyo, Yuriko Koike, were elected as members of the C40 Cities Steering Committee with the task of providing strategic direction in overcoming the climate crisis for the global network of 97 world cities.

After being elected as a member of the C40 Cities Steering Committee at the deputy chair level, which was appointed in London, Anies said that his party wanted to work with various parties as an effort to improve climate.

"Jakarta is determined to expand the reach of the C40 to cooperate with the city and other stakeholders, in order to fulfill the objectives of implementing transformative climate action, referring to the Paris Agreement," Anies said in a written statement quoted by Antara, Saturday, December 5. .

Recent developments, continued Anies, in the East, Southeast Asia and Oceania regions have created unprecedented opportunities, namely collaboration with the young generation, the private sector, the national government, and local and international non-government partners.

In this time of the COVID-19 pandemic, in that statement too, Anies and Koike will also work together and support the mayors of the C40 members to encourage the economic recovery of the city due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, through an environmentally friendly and equitable approach, as well as crisis management. climate.

In Jakarta, the statement explained, efforts to improve air quality to make it cleaner and pollution free have been made. Where in September 2020, Anies also supported the launch of the Clean Air Partnership program in Jakarta to tackle air pollution and raise awareness of its impact on health.

Then, regarding the policy for handling air pollution, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has ratified Governor Regulation Number 66 of 2020 concerning Motor Vehicle Emission Testing in July 2020 and is currently drafting revisions related to Immovable Source Emission Quality Standards and ISPU revisions by including PM parameters 2.5 in the calculation.

Previously, in August 2019, the Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta had also issued Governor's Instruction Number 66 regarding Air Quality Control, in which there were seven actions to control air pollution.

The development of facilities to support the use of emission-free vehicles such as bicycles and electric buses is also being pursued in which cyclists occupy second priority as road users after pedestrians.

"So that the construction of bicycle lanes has also become a priority since 2019. Currently, 78.4 kilometers of bicycle paths have been built on 22 roads, out of a total development target of 500 kilometers in 2030," Anies said in the statement.
