Ministry Of Transportation Survey 73 Percent Of People Choosing Not To Go Home On Nataru Holidays

JAKARTA - A survey by the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) shows that 73 percent of people choose not to go home during the Christmas and New Year 2021 holidays. Given the high rate of the spread of COVID-19.

Director General of Land Transportation, Budi Setiyadi, said that the decrease in the number of travelers was due to the public's awareness not to go home during the pandemic to suppress the spread of Covid-19.

"Based on the results of a survey conducted by the Ministry of Transportation's Research and Development Agency (Balitbang), it is predicted that as many as 73 percent of people choose not to go home, while 27 percent continue to travel," said Director General Budi in his press statement, Saturday, December 5.

Budi revealed that 31 percent of the people who chose to go home came from Jabodetabek. Where they will travel to Central Java (20 percent), East Java (13 percent), and West Java (10 percent), with the aim of traveling, returning home to other destinations.

Although there is still quite a lot of movement of people to travel during the year-end holidays. The Ministry of Transportation and the Directorate General of Land Transportation are still preparing and coordinating with related parties in order to anticipate an increase in travelers.

"We (Kemenhub) have coordinated with related parties, both the Police and the Toll Road Management Agency (BPJT). Including the operational restrictions on the transportation of goods out of Jabodetabek which applies during the homecoming period on 23 December and 30 December 2020," he explained.

Meanwhile, for operational restrictions on freight transport in the direction of Jabodetabek during the return flow period I on December 27 2020 at 00.00 WIB to December 28 2020 at 08.00 WIB and during the return flow period II on January 2, 2021 at 12.00 WIB to January 4, 2021 at 08.00 WIB.

"This restriction only applies to the Jakarta-Cikampek-Palimanan toll road," said Director General Budi.

Furthermore, said Director General Budi, in order to facilitate the implementation of Nataru 2020/2021 transportation, his party will conduct rampchek on 5,000 vehicles, both AKAP buses and tourism buses and ferry boats. Including the readiness of infrastructure that prioritizes health protocols at 105 provincial terminal points.

"Rampchecks will be carried out for buses and ferry boats, 50,317 bus readiness units and 218 ferry boats. In addition, the readiness of existing infrastructure in the regions can celebrate Christmas and New Year while still prioritizing health protocols," he concluded.
