JAKARTA - Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) Mohammad Syahril emphasized that the mysterious acute kidney failure disease in children has nothing to do with COVID-19 infection and vaccination.

A mysterious acute kidney disorder is the condition when the kidneys suddenly cannot filter waste from the blood and without knowing the cause.

"Until now, the incidence of acute kidney failure has nothing to do with the Covid 19 vaccine or COVID-19 infection," said Syahril in his statement, Wednesday, October 19.

Syahril said, until now the Ministry of Health is still conducting laboratory examinations and the exact cause of acute kidney failure in children by cooperating with epidemiologists, the POM, IDAI, and Puslabfor.

This epidemiological investigation is carried out by conducting surveillance and examinations to find out the infections that cause acute kidney failure in children. Examination includes throat swabs, anus swabs, blood tests and possible toxicity.

"Currently, the Ministry of Health and the team are conducting an epidemiological investigation to the public, the team will ask the various types of drugs consumed and diseases that have been suffered 10 days before entering the hospital / sick. Hopefully, we can get the results soon as information for further treatment," said Syahril.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health has asked health care facilities to increase awareness of the spread of kidney failure in children by actively reporting every case leading to acute kidney failure in children.

On that occasion, Syahril asked the public, especially parents who have children aged 0 to 18 years, to actively carry out general monitoring and symptoms that lead to acute kidney failure such as decreased urine volume, fever for 14 days, symptoms of ARI, and symptoms of infection with cerena channels.

This acute kidney gap in children has distinctive symptoms, namely a sudden decrease in urine volume. If the child experiences these symptoms, it should be immediately taken to the nearest health care facility for further examination and treatment," explained Syahril.

Learning from the case that occurred in Gambia which was allegedly due to cough medicine from India, Syahril also appealed to the public to use drugs properly and correctly according to the doctor's prescription and the information contained in the drug packaging.
