Cases Of Accounting For Children In Jakarta Added 7 Just In The Last 5 Days

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Health Office recorded an increase in cases of mysterious acute kidney failure in children in the capital city as many as 24 cases in the last five days.

As of October 13, there were 42 cases of acute kidney failure. Meanwhile, on October 18, cases increased to 49 cases.

A mysterious acute kidney disorder is the condition when the kidneys suddenly cannot filter waste from the blood and without knowing the cause.

"Data as of October 18, 2022, DKI Jakarta was found in 49 cases with 36 children under five and 13 non-balita children," said Head of the Surveillance, Epidemiology and Immunization Section of the DKI Jakarta Health Service, Ngabila Salama to reporters, Wednesday, October 19.

Based on gender, 33 cases are male and 16 others are women. In this disease, as many as 25 cases were declared dead, 12 were still undergoing treatment, and 12 had been declared cured.

Ngabila revealed that not all patients live in DKI Jakarta, with 22 cases. Meanwhile, the rest are domiciled in other areas, namely Banten 8 cases, West Java 14 cases, and 5 other cases from other areas.

Ngabila revealed that from January to July, the average acute kidney failure cases were 0-3 cases. This figure jumped from August to 10 cases, September 19 cases, and until October 18 7 cases.

"The Indonesian Ministry of Health is the leader of the exact cause of the increase in cases of acute kidney failure in children, all data and findings for policy recommendations," said Ngabila.

Ngabila explained that the causes of this mysterious acute kidney disorder from several that have been identified are leptospirosis infections, influenza, parainfluenza, long COVID-19, CMV virus, bocavirus, legionella, shigella, E. eoli, and so on.

Meanwhile, the initial symptoms of mysterious acute kidney disorders are fever, diarrhea or vomiting, and coughing.

"The further symptoms are the decrease in the amount of urine and frequency of BAK, the body swells, decreases consciousness, and shortness of breath," he explained.

Until now, the exact cause of the mysterious acute kidney disorder is not yet known and is still in the process of being investigated.

"It is suspected that the multisystem infommatory syndrome in children is suspected to be related to the cause of kidney disorders in this series of cases, but there is a possibility that other causes still have to be sought," he explained.

Furthermore, Ngabila asked parents to identify the characteristics of serious symptoms of acute kidney disorders. This is because the treatment of patients affected by acute kidney disorders must be treated immediately.

"If a child is found to have fever, diarrhea, vomiting, the frequency of urination is reduced, it is better if in 12 hours he should be immediately taken to a health facility. The sooner the mysterious acute kidney disorder is detected, the better the disease will be treated specifically," he said.
