YOGYAKARTA - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has warned residents along the river in Yogyakarta City regarding the potential for landslides during the rainy season.

Head of Yogyakarta City BPBD, Nur Hidayat, said that the landslide incident occurred in Bener Village on Monday, October 17.

"Due to heavy rains that have occurred since the morning, landslides are quite large on the banks of the Winongo River," Hidayat said in Yogyakarta, quoted from Antara, Tuesday, October 18.

He said that all riverbank areas in the city of Yogyakarta have the potential for landslides. Therefore, he said, people need to increase their awareness regarding disasters.

On Monday, October 17, there was a large landslide in RT 10/RW 3, Bener Village with a length of 20 meters and a height of about 17 meters which damaged one house and threatened two other houses.

Landslides also caused damage to river talut and bamboo clumps that participated in landslides to disrupt the flow of the river.

Even though the disaster has begun to increase because the rainy season has entered, Nur said the disaster emergency status for the city of Yogyakarta has not been raised.

Yogyakarta City BPBD Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Sub-Coordinator Iswari Mahendrako added that he had assisted in the temporary handling of landslides by closing the location using tarpaulins so that the damage would not spread further.

"It has been closed with tarpaulin. For damaged talut, it will be coordinated with the relevant agencies," he said.

For damaged houses, he continued, it is possible to get repair assistance but waiting for applications from the local sub-district.

"After submitting from the region, we will carry out verification. If it meets the requirements to be assisted, then we will distribute house repairs assistance in the form of building materials," he said.

In the 2022 fiscal year, the Yogyakarta City BPBD has prepared a budget of IDR 180 million to assist in disaster rehabilitation.
