Banggai Laut Regent Arrested By KPK After A Bribery Transaction

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) arrested Banggai Laut Regent Wenny Bukamo in a hand arrest operation (OTT). He was arrested after allegedly receiving money from private parties or contractors working on projects in the government.

"The allegation of corruption in this case is related to the provision of a sum of money from the private sector or contractors for the implementation of work to state officials, in this case the Regent of Banggai Laut, in this case, was allegedly received by the Regent of Banggai Laut," said Acting KPK spokesman for prosecution Ali Fikri in his written statement, Friday, December 4.

However, Ali has not specified how much money Wenny received. Meanwhile, the number of parties who were also arrested by the KPK for later questioning reached 16 people.

"Among them are the Banggai Laut Regent, officials within the Banggai Laut Regency Government and several private parties," Ali explained.

Previously reported, the information regarding the silent operation by the KPK task force was confirmed by KPK Chairman Firli Bahuri.

"Today, Thursday 3 December 2020 at 13.00 WIB, the Regent of Banggai Laut was arrested," Firli said when contacted by reporters via text message, Thursday, December 3.

However, Firli has not yet explained the case against Wenny. Because, currently his party is still waiting for a report from the task force team in the field.

"We are still waiting for the results of colleagues in the law enforcement in the field. Give time for comrades to work first," he said.

It is known, Wenny is a candidate for incumbent regent promoted by PDI Perjuangan and is paired with Ridaya Laode Ngkowe. From the information gathered, he is also the first regent in Banggai Laut Regency and was first elected in December 2015.

In addition, he was also recorded as having served as a member of the Surabaya DPRD for the 1999-2004 period.
