JAKARTA - A student with the initials S (18) was found dead by hanging himself with a rope at one of the Islamic Boarding Schools (Ponpes) on Jalan Kebantenan, Cilincing, North Jakarta. It is suspected that the victim was depressed and desperate to end his life.

Zakaria, as a witness, said that the incident occurred Tuesday morning, October 11.

Zakaria also explained that before seeing the victim hanging himself, at 06.00 WIB, he still saw the victim cooking in the kitchen of the hut.

After cooking, continued Zakaria, the victim played with his cellphone at the At Taufiq Mosque. At that time Zakaria saw that the victim still looked fine, he was not suspicious.

But when he wanted to meet the victim at the mosque, Zakaria did not see him. He rushed to find the victim to his room. At that time the victim was found dead hanging on the 2nd floor.

"At around 09.30 the witness went to the room but the victim was not there, then looked up, and saw the victim had hanged himself using a green rope," explained Zakaria, Thursday, October 13.

For this incident, Zakaria reported to the Cilincing Police for follow-up.

Contacted separately, the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Cilincing Police, AKP Alex Chandra, said that the victim was suspected of having severe depression. However, he does not yet know what caused the victim to depression, because investigators are still investigating.

It is true that the victim died when he was hanging himself in his boarding school room. He (the victim) was suspected of being depressed and decided to commit suicide," he said.

The cause of depression is still being investigated. But indeed based on witnesses, victims in recent weeks have often said they want to commit suicide," he concluded.
