JAKARTA - Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles III will be named at Westminster Abbey, London next May at a ceremony that will take part in traditional processions used for the king'swarship for the past 1,000 years.

Charles, 73, automatically became king after the death of Queen Elizabeth's mother last month. However, the grand cremation ceremony for him and his wife Camilla, who will be named queen, will now take place on Saturday 6 May 2023.

"The recognition will reflect the role of the king today and look to the future, while rooted in long-standing traditions and processions," the palace said in a statement.

Ceremonies, solemn and religious events that will be carried out by the Archbishop of York, the spiritual head of the Anglican Alliance, usually come months after access to a new king.

That way, Charles followed in the footsteps of the king and queen of England, and then Britain and Great Britain, who have been named in Westminster Abbey since William the Archbishop in 1066.

Charles is the 41st king of the line to trace his origin back to William, and he will be the oldest king to be crowned.

The mother, Queen Elizabeth II, who died at the age of 96 at her holiday home in Scotland, holds a record for the longest rule of 70 years.

British media reported that King Charles III wanted to reduce some of the traditional splendor around the coronation, given that it would come as the country grapples with a life-cost crisis.

The Palace said it would maintain the core elements of traditional ceremonies, while acknowledging the spirit of our time.

Elizabeth II's coronation as queen on June 2, 1953, was the first to be broadcast on television and was considered a milestone in modernizing monarchy, a move her husband, Prince Philip, said to be strongly encouraged.

Meanwhile, Westminster Abbey is a place for Elizabeth's funeral ceremony as well as the place of Charles' son and now the heir, Prince William, is marrying his wife Kate.

Charles III is the king and head of state not only from the United Kingdom, but from 14 other kingdoms including Australia, Canada, Jamaica, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea.
