JAKARTA - The East Jakarta City Government has built 3,000 infiltration wells spread across 10 sub-districts in the area to anticipate flooding.

East Jakarta Mayor Muhammad Anwar said this number exceeded the initial target of only 2,000 infiltration wells.

"It has exceeded the target because I ordered it to my ranks. If indeed the need is more than the target of 200 per sub-district, just make it easier so that the inundation problem can be resolved," Muhammad Anwar said quoting Antara, Tuesday, October 11.

This was emphasized by the Mayor when reviewing the construction of infiltration wells in the courtyard of the Tamini Square Mall, Pinang Ranti Village, Makasar District, East Jakarta (Jaktim).

The mayor revealed that the reason for reviewing the construction of two infiltration wells in the courtyard of the Tamini Square Mall was because the location was inundated when it rained so infiltration wells are expected to be a solution to overcome this.

“We will check whether it will be added again and find out where the water 'spots' are. From the direction of the sub-district head, we will build five infiltration wells around here," said Anwar.

Anwar added that his party welcomes the community to increase the number of infiltration wells in order to overcome the problem of inundation in their area.

Makasar Sub-district Head, Kamal Alatas explained, until now Makasar District has built 104 infiltration wells.

"We are targeting 200 infiltration wells by the Mayor of East Jakarta, so we will maximize it and we will continue to coordinate with all parties in the sub-district, from RT, RW, to private office managers," said Kamal.
