MATARAM - Dozens of houses in six hamlets in the Tanjung Luar Village area, Keruak District, East Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara were swept away by a tornado. "It is true that we have received reports of tornadoes that damaged dozens of houses in the Tanjung Luar area," said Head of Public Relations of the East Lombok Police, Iptu Nicolas Oesman when confirmed in Selong, Antara, Sunday, October 9. The dozens of houses that were damaged were spread across the hamlet of South Toroh as many as 8 units, Kampung Koko Hamlet as many as 13 units, Muhajirin Hamlet as many as 17 units, Central Kampung Hamlet as many as four units. Furthermore, 15 units of South Kampung Baru Hamlet, 38 units of Kampung Baru Hamlet, Syahbandar and Musala offices were damaged. Meanwhile, 19 units were heavily damaged and 75 units were lightly damaged. "However, in the disaster there were no casualties but material losses," he said. The tornado occurred suddenly accompanied by heavy rain, causing residents who were in the house to panic and scatter out of their homes to anticipate things that were not desirable. In addition to dozens of houses being damaged, the tornado also caused a number of trees to fall which caused the residents' houses to fall. "Fortunately there were no casualties in the disaster," he said. The losses due to the disaster are still being calculated, while residents' houses are temporarily damaged staying at their families or neighbors' homes. "Some residents are currently taking refuge in their families' homes," he said. He also appealed to the public to remain alert to the potential for heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds that can cause natural disasters such as floods, landslides and fallen trees. "Residents must remain vigilant when it rains and strong winds occur," he said.
