East Java PWNU Calls For Gaib Prayers For Victims Of The Malang Tragedy

SURABAYA - The East Java Nahdlatul Ulama Regional Management (PWNU) called for supernatural prayers and prayed for victims of the humanitarian tragedy that occurred at the Kanjurahan Stadium, Malang Regency, East Java, Saturday, October 1.

This incident really invites mutual concern. We pray that the victims are accepted by Allah SWT," said Deputy Chairperson of the East Java PWNU Kiai Abdussalam Shohib as quoted by Antara, Sunday, October 2.

The incident occurred when a group of Arema FC supporters, Aremania, clashed with the authorities after their favorite team was defeated by Persebaya Surabaya with a score of 2-3.

Based on the police's statement until this morning, the total number of victims who died was 130 people.

In addition, hundreds of other people are still receiving intensive care at a number of hospitals in Malang.

In addition to the victims who died, there were 13 damaged vehicles recorded, 10 of which were Police vehicles.

According to him, the tragedy at the Kanjuruhan Stadium is one of the most terrible football disasters in the history of football in the world.

The caretaker of the Mambaul Maarif Denanyar Islamic Boarding School expressed his condolences and hoped that such incidents would no longer occur.

"Nahdlatul Ulama also urges that a thorough investigation of the cause of this tragedy be carried out," said Kiai Salam.

The same thing was conveyed by the Secretary of the East Java PWNU, Akh Muzakki, who emphasized that together with PCNU City and Malang Regency, he established a crisis center post and a trauma center in the local area.

The command post, he said, was to accommodate information from NU residents of Malang Raya who might become victims, including for the general public.

"This incident must be a lesson. The government should carry out a thorough evaluation of the organization of football competitions while encouraging national football to progress without heartbreaking events such as cases in Kanjuruhan," said the Chancellor of the Sunan State Islamic University, Ampel Surabaya.
