The Tragedy Of The Malang Kanjuruhan Stadium, Observers: Indonesia As The Host Of The World Cup Ended In Review

JAKARTA - Sports observer Akmal Marhali highlighted the deadly tragedy that occurred at the Malang Stadium, East Java. According to him, it is not impossible if Indonesia's status as the host of the world cup will be reviewed after the rioting incident that killed 127 people.

He also linked the deadly football incident that occurred at the Kanjuruhan Malang Stadium, Saturday, October 1, 2022, to the tragedy of Heysel, May 29, 1985.

"On May 31, 1985 UEFA immediately sentenced British clubs not to be involved in European competitions for five years," said Akmal, Sunday, October 2.

Akmal said that the government, especially the Minister of Youth and Sports, must enforce Law Number 11 of 2022 concerning the National Sports System which revokes Law 3 of 2005.

Article 103 of the National Sports Law states: "The organizers of sports activities that do not meet the technical requirements of sports, health, safety, local regional regulations, security, public order, and public interests as referred to in article 52 shall be sentenced to a maximum imprisonment of 2 (two) years and/or a maximum fine of Rp. 1 billion".

"The suspect is threatened with a maximum imprisonment of five years under Article 359 in conjunction with Article 103 of Law Number 11 of 2022 concerning the National Sports System which revokes Law 3 of 2005 with a maximum threat of two years," said Akmal.

Meanwhile, Article 359 of the Criminal Code states: "Whoever it is for his mistake (his negligence) causes another person to die, is threatened with a maximum imprisonment of five years or a maximum imprisonment of one year".

Previously, it was reported that the deadly riot that occurred at the Kanjuruhan Malang Stasion after the host Arema FC lost 2-3 to Persebaya in the 11th week of league 1 2022-2023, Saturday, October 1, yesterday, killing 127 people on the football field.

The announcement of the deaths of hundreds of people who died was delivered directly by the East Java Police Chief Inspector General Nico Afinta.

"In this incident, 127 people died, two of whom were members of the National Police," he said at a press conference in Malang, Sunday, October 2.
