BANYUMAS - The Purwokerto District Attorney's Office (Kejari) has arrested a man who has been a fugitive from the North Maluku High Prosecutor's Office (Kejati) for almost 7 years.

The head of the Purwokerto District Attorney's Office, Sunarwan, said the man with the initials Djf (46) was a defendant in the crime of forgery of letters and domestic violence, aka domestic violence.

"The person concerned is charged with violating Article 263 of the Criminal Code and Article 49 of Law Number 23 of 2004," he said in a written statement, Wednesday, September 28.

Sunarwan explained that Djf was known to have escaped from the Soasio District Court (PN) detention, Tidore City, North Maluku, on November 26, 2015. At that time, the defendant was only tried with the agenda of reading the indictment.

The incident occurred when Djf was put into the Soasio District Court Detention Center for lunch during recess. When he found out that the officers were busy putting the other defendants in the detention room, Djf took the opportunity to escape by removing the prison vest.

After learning that one of the detainees had escaped, the officers immediately gave chase to enter the narrow alleys. However, Djf could not be found.

"Some time ago, we received information that Djf who was included in the DPO (wanted list) was in Purwokerto to meet a woman," said Sunarwan.

Therefore, his party will immediately conduct an investigation related to Djf's whereabouts in Purwokerto.

Until finally, Sunarwan was able to confirm that Djf was in one of the hotel rooms in Purwokerto on the evening of Monday, September 26, which was followed up with an arrest.

"Before making the arrest, we first coordinated with the North Maluku Prosecutor's Office which was followed up with the issuance of arrests and escorts," said Kajari Purwokerto.

After being arrested by the Purwokerto Kejari Team, he said, the defendant Djf was then placed in the Banyumas City Police Detention Center (Polresta), Central Java.

"Today (September 28), we leave the defendant Djf to the North Maluku Prosecutor's Office Team for further legal proceedings," said Sunarwan.
