JAKARTA - Spanish giants Barcelona announced that it has reached an agreement with a number of representatives of players and coaching staff regarding plans to cut wages and delay bonuses due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

They hope to cut 172 million euros (approx.Rp2.89 trillion) in spending from their balance sheet, with 122 million euros resulting from cuts in wages this season and another 50 million from bonuses over the next three years.

"This initial agreement is only a matter of waiting for the ratification of the players and coaches who are affected in the next few days," said a statement announced on Barcelona's official website, quoted from Antara, Saturday, November 28.

"When this agreement is ratified it will be an important milestone in the effort to realign the economic situation of the club," read the same statement.

In a Reuters report, last month Barca announced a loss of 97 million euros from the 2019/20 fiscal year and a 14 percent decline in revenue and the club is bracing for a bigger drop this year.

Early in 2020 Barcelona has made a salary cut of 70 percent during the emergency period in Spain, which runs from March to June.

On the other hand, the Spanish League has also set a threshold for Barcelona's new total salary to 382.7 million euros from 671 million euros in the previous year.
