JAMBI - The General Elections Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) of Jambi Province invites the public to wisely use social media (medsos), especially ahead and in holding the 2024 Simultaneous Elections.

The problem of hoax news or black campaigns carried out on social media, clearly and this is not the domain of Bawaslu, but Bawaslu can only report the incident and forward the matter to the police. In terms of handling violations, although Bawaslu does not have the authority in handling hoax cases and hate speech, this problem is a shared responsibility, including Bawaslu. Especially the issue of disinformation that can interfere with the process of holding the upcoming General Election, because the use of social media will increase, so it is necessary to have maturity in using social media. "On the other hand, the rise of false information or hoaxes, the Jambi Province Bawaslu is also required to provide information through the Bawaslu social media channel and website, as an effort to fight hoaxes," said Wein Arifin.

Including maximizing the role of PPID in being able to provide clarification to the right and wrong news, helping the public to check every information circulating, so that in carrying out its function to fulfill the rights of the community in getting information. "In addition, as a form of Bawaslu's commitment to against hoaxes, currently Bawaslu of the Republic of Indonesia is building a network, by cooperating with digital platforms, social media and content creators, to jointly fight and prevent hoaxes. "Thus, the platforms, both Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp, Instagram, and other digital platforms, can provide information or election education," said Wein. With perspectives, it is easier to accelerate data processing, because if election information is present on every platform, people will inevitably click on it.
