JAKARTA - The Presidential Chief of Staff, General TNI (Ret.) Moeldoko, said President Joko Widodo had signed Presidential Instruction (Inpres) Number 7/2022 concerning the use of electric vehicles into official vehicles for central and regional government agencies.

"Inpres No. 7/2022 whose full name is the Inpres for Battery-Battery Electric Vehicles (Battery Electric Vehicle) as a Vehicle for the Operational and/or Individual Service Vehicles of the Central Government Agencies and Regional Governments was signed by President Jokowi on September 13, 2022," said Moeldoko in a written statement received in Jakarta, Thursday, September 15.

The Presidential Instruction, said Moeldoko, is a manifestation of Jokowi's commitment to implementing the energy transition from fossil resources to new and renewable energy.

"To realize the big design of the energy transition, the government begins by transitioning and converting conventional vehicles to electric vehicles," Moeldoko said as quoted by Antara.

Presidential Instruction No. 7/2022 is aimed at all ministers in the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet, cabinet secretaries, presidential chiefs, attorney generals, TNI commanders, Indonesian police chiefs, heads of non-ministerial government institutions, heads of state institution secretariats, governors, as well as regents/mayors.

Through the Presidential Instruction, Jokowi ordered every minister to the regional head to draw up and establish regulations to support the acceleration of the implementation of the use of electric vehicles. The President also instructed the preparation of budget allocations to support the program.

Moeldoko said Presidential Instruction 7/2022 will be a big capital for Indonesia to be at the forefront of globally in the energy transition to a more advanced civilization.

"When other countries are competing to save the world from the threat of climate change, we don't just become spectators. We have to be the main actors, and this Presidential Instruction encourages us to make that happen," he said.

According to him, the transition of conventional vehicles to electricity is also expected to be a solution to the problem of the large fuel subsidy in the APBN, and become an effort to save foreign exchange, as well as create national energy independence.

In addition, the transition to electrical energy is also expected to encourage the achievement of net emissions by 2060.

Regarding foreign exchange savings, he said the use of electric vehicles could save the country's foreign exchange of up to more than Rp. 2,000 trillion because it would help reduce fuel imports.

"Replaced for cheaper and produced electric vehicles in the country of energy. The state foreign exchange savings can reach more than Rp. 2,000 trillion," he said.

He ensured that KSP would fully oversee the implementation of the Presidential Instruction concerning the use of electric vehicles as official vehicles.

"Since the beginning, KSP has continued to encourage this Presidential Instruction to be ratified. Of course, KSP will oversee its implementation in ministries/agencies to local governments," he said.

Based on Presidential Instruction 7/2022, the use of electric vehicles as government official vehicles can be done through a purchase, rental, and/or conversion of fuel motorized vehicles into battery-based electric motor vehicles in accordance with the provisions of the legislation.
