SUKABUMI - The Women's and Children's Protection Unit of the Sukabumi Police Criminal Investigation Unit arrested six suspects who were members of a syndicate of criminal acts of trafficking in persons (TPPO) abroad. Victims from this syndicate come from a number of provinces in Indonesia.
"From the results of the investigation, the number of residents who were victims of this network of TIP was eight people, three people each came from Lampung and Sukabumi Regency, West Java, and one victim each from Sukabumi City and Cianjur Regency," said Sukabumi Deputy Chief of Police Commissioner R. Bimo Moernanda in Sukabumi as reported by Antara, Wednesday, September 14.
The six suspects arrested were HA (52), LS (50), I (40), and J (40) acting as potential migrant workers, while MF (22) and DA (39) as shelter administrators.
The TIP case was revealed after a report from the victim's family was followed up with an investigation and managed to raid a house that was used as a shelter for prospective illegal migrant workers in Cisolempat Village, Sukakersa Village, Parakansalak District, Sukabumi Regency on Sunday, September 11.
The mode used by the TIP network is to visit potential victims (women) who are in need of work by promising to send them to work as household assistants abroad, such as Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and other Middle Eastern countries.
Each potential victim is lured to a salary of 1,200 Real Saudi Arabia or around IDR 4.8 million per month. To dispatch prospective migrant workers to the destination country, this network falsifies the identity and other administrative requirements.
For the evidence confiscated from the suspect, including various population documents belonging to the victim, 13 family permits, seven cell phones, a bundle of conversation screen pieces between the victims and the suspect, two units of four-wheeled Toyota Avanza and Daihatsu Ayla vehicles.
"We are still hunting for two other fugitives, namely M and A, both of whom are the masterminds of this TIP network and who have complained about the processing of documents up to the departure of the victims," he added.
The Head of the Operations Section of the Sukabumi Police Satreskrim, Inspector of Police Dua left it possible that the number of victims would be even higher because this network was in action in various regions and even a number of provinces.
