RI Takes Over The Riau Islands And Natuna Air Areas, Menhub Refines Airnav's Great Duties

JAKARTA - Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi reminded Airnav Indonesia's responsibilities to be even greater. Especially after the issuance of Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 109 of 2022 concerning the Ratification of the Agreement of the Flight Information Region (FIR) Indonesia and Singapore which was promulgated on September 5, 2022.

The Minister of Transportation asked Airnav Indonesia to continue to provide the best flight navigation services, in order to carry out its duties to maintain national and international flight safety, as well as maintain the image of Indonesia in the eyes of the world.

This is not a light mandate to maintain the trust that has been given. For this reason, I ask Airnav to provide the best service, provide a high-tech system, reliable human resources, and comply with applicable regulations," said Minister of Transportation Budi Karya while attending the 10th Anniversary of the Perum Institute for Indonesian Aviation Navigation Services (Airnav Indonesia) in Jakarta, Tuesday, September 13.

The Minister of Transportation revealed that apart from the issuance of the FIR Presidential Regulation, flight traffic began to increase after two years of being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic was also a challenge for Airnav Indonesia.

He said the presence of Airnav Indonesia since 2012 has made a major contribution in supporting connectivity and accessibility in all areas of Indonesia's airspace.

"The benefits can be felt throughout Indonesia, namely to unite, maintain the air space and sovereignty of the country, and participate in providing navigation services for international flights," he said as quoted by Antara.

On the same occasion, President Director of Airnav Indonesia Polana B. Pramesti revealed, with the greater role and responsibility, his party continues to improve the performance of flight navigation services.

"According to the theme that we carried out on Airnav's 10th birthday, namely Accelerating Change, Emering Stronger, it means we have to make changes quickly and appropriately to make Airnav stronger," he said.

Having been promulgated by the Presidential Regulation of the FIR, is a step forward for international recognition of Indonesian airspace.

Currently, the management of the airspace above the Riau Islands and Natuna is returning to the Republic of Indonesia, after being managed by Singapore for a long time.

This effort requires a long and difficult process, through a series of discussions conducted approximately 60 meetings.

A number of benefits obtained by Indonesia with air space management are improving flight safety and security, maintaining Indonesia's air space sovereignty, and increasing non-tax state revenues (PNBP).
