Last Year Motor Accidents Nearly Mass 100 Thousands Of Cases, The Main Causes Were Dominated By Drivers

JAKARTA - The National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) invites all stakeholders in the land transportation sector, especially two-wheeled vehicles, to improve driving safety.

Taking data from the Korlantas Polri, KNKT Senior investigator Ahmad Wildan said the traffic accidents that occurred in Indonesia were dominated by motorcycles.

"This is our concern because motorcycle accidents dominate the number of accidents in Indonesia," said Ahmad Wildan, Tuesday, September 13, quoted from Antara.

Ahmad said data on the Integrated Road Safety Management System (IRSMS) of Korlantas Polri shows that the types of vehicles involved in accidents in 2020 are dominated by 80 percent by motorcycles, 8 percent freight transportation, 6 percent bus, 2 percent private cars, and 4 percent.

Still, based on the same source, the number of traffic accidents involving motorbikes in 2020 reached 93,319 cases. Meanwhile, in 2021 the number of traffic accidents involving motorbikes rose to 97,095 cases. Then in 2022 to September there were 85,691 cases of accidents involving motorcycles.

Meanwhile, based on the number of motorcycles involved in accidents in 2020 as many as 258,842 vehicles, in 2021 as many as 133,067 vehicles, and in 2022 as many as 120,284 vehicles.

"We see that the cause is dominated by the human factor itself, while the vehicle factor and road conditions are very small," he said.

Furthermore, Ahmad Wildan conveyed that the KNKT invites all stakeholders, including the Singles Agent of the Brand Holder (ATPM) and the motorcycle community to jointly provide education about driving safety.

KNKT asked ATPM to contribute to providing education/socialization related to accident prevention, one of which is through educational motorcycle driving techniques in various road conditions.

"In the future, we will try to make sampling how we prevent accidents in sub-standard road conditions, and what tips, so that the message will be the same," he said.
