JAKARTA - The Malaysian Civil Aviation Authority (CAAM) confirmed the existence of a helicopter that lost contact with the Kuala Lumpur Air Traffic Control Center (KLATCC) on Sunday, at 12.16 local time, in Bidor, Perak.
CAAM top official Captain Chester Voo in a written statement-- quoted from Antara -- in Kuala Lumpur said the helicopter was Eurocopter EC120B with registration sign N409HH which was operated by Outpost Heli Sdn Bhd.
The helicopter with a pilot took off from Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, Subang, Selangor, at 11.37 p.m. for a private flight and was scheduled to land at 12.37 p.m. at Sultan Azlan Shah Airport, Ipoh, Perak.
The radar system at KLATCC has recorded a sharp decline in the height of the helicopter and air traffic control officers in charge of trying to come into contact with the pilot, but there has been no reply.
A review of the radar reading showed a large loss of less than a minute.
The Kuala Lumpur Aviation Rescue Coordination Center (KLARCC) at KLATCC was immediately activated to determine the location of the helicopter that had lost contact.
The Royal Malaysian Air Force and the Malaysian Royal Police are looking for the helicopter's whereabouts at the last known location for rescue efforts.
