JAKARTA - A case of the second monkeypox has been detected in Russia in a man who returned from a trip to Europe, the Directorate of Federal Services for Consumer and Human Welfare Protection of St. Petersburg said Thursday.
"The Directorate of Federal Services for Supervision of the Protection of Consumer Rights and Human Welfare for the city of St. Petersburg informed about the detection of new cases of monkeypox," the sanitary watchdog said in a statement, TASS reported September 8.
"This disease was diagnosed in a man who returned from a trip to European countries. Patients have been hospitalized with typical symptoms in medical institutions specializing in infections. The patient's life is not in danger," the statement continued.
The patient's biological material was sent to the authorized sanitation supervisory agency for a relevant test. They confirmed that he had been infected with the monkeypox virus.
