The Sorong Flood Emergency Response Period Was Extended Until September 13

PAPUA - The Sorong City Government has extended the emergency response period for natural disasters in the form of floods and landslides for the next seven days.

The head of the Sorong City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Herlin Sasabone, explained that the extension of the emergency response period until September 13 was due to considering high rainfall.

"Based on the predictions of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency, rainfall will continue to occur until mid-September 2022," he said in Sorong, West Papua Province, quoted from Antara, Tuesday, September 6.

In addition, he said, flood and landslide prevention efforts in terms of infrastructure, namely the improvement of water disposal channels in Sorong City, are still ongoing.

During the emergency response period, the BPBD Command Post in the courtyard of the Sorong Mayor's Office remained on standby to receive complaints from flood victims and landslides.

Herlin appealed to residents of Sorong City, especially those living on hill slopes, to stay alert for landslides because the rainfall was still high.
