TABANAN - Putu Bagus Galih Pramana (38) was arrested by the Tabanan Police, Bali, for printing counterfeit money. The man who works as a doctor uses counterfeit money to pay for the services of a masseuse.

"It's true (he's a general doctor. The modus operandi is that the perpetrators make counterfeit money and then use the fake money to pay for massage services", said Head of the Tabanan Police Criminal Investigation Unit, AKP Yoga Aji Sekar, Friday, September 2.

This incident occurred on Friday, July 22. At that time, a masseur with the initials SN massaged the perpetrator on Wagimin Street, Tabanan Regency, Bali.

After the massage, SN was paid with five rupiah banknotes in the IDR 50 thousand denomination. Initially, SN did not suspect the money was counterfeit.

But upon inspection, the money he received turned out to be counterfeit. The victim reported the case to the police.

"Forensic results of five pieces of IDR 50 thousand denomination are fake. The examination by Bank Indonesia (BI) experts of five pieces of IDR 50 thousand that were used as evidence did not meet the characteristics of the authenticity of rupiah notes", said AKP Yoga.

In addition to arresting the perpetrators, the police also confiscated 5 pieces of counterfeit IDR 50 thousand notes, printers, and cellphones as evidence.

"(How to make counterfeit money with) office computers and printers, this is the first time I have done it, only five IDR 50 thousand denominations and a single perpetrator", he said.

The perpetrator was charged with Article 36 paragraph (1) and paragraph (3) of Law Number 7 of 2011 concerning Currency.
