JAKARTA - The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) will soon operate five units of electric-powered city transportation (angkot) cars in Palembang City, South Sumatra in 2023.
Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi in Palembang, Saturday, said the electric angkot car served as a public transportation for feeders or light train feeders (LRT) in Palembang.
"The five units of electric angkot have all been prepared by the Directorate General of Hubdat of the Ministry of Transportation as an additional LRT feeder fleet next year (2023)," said the Minister of Transportation at a pilot event for the Feeder of the LRT Musi Emas using an electric car at the Palembang Hajj Dormitory, quoted by Antara, Sunday.
According to him, the feeder electricity angkot crosses as many as five integrated crossing routes with the Palembang LRT station which is expected to meet the transportation needs of the local community.
The routes include crossing Makrayu (West II II Ilir) Palembang Icon via Sriwijaya Bumi Stadium (6.10 kilometers), UPTD Motor Vehicle Testing Col. H Burlian Sukabangun Street (9.02 kilometers).
Then, Plaju Terminal Tegal Binangun - Jakabaring via DJKA LRT station (9.02 kilometers), OPI housing complex TOP Complex DJKA LRT Station (4.25 kilometers) and Perumnas Talang Housing Kelapa Alang-alang Lebar - Simpang Kades KM12 (4.23 kilometers)
The government continues to optimize transportation services to the community, which hopefully will make it easier. Then continue to increase the number of passengers on the Palembang LRT. Thank you for the support of the Palembang City/South Sumatra City Government, of course, local residents," he said, accompanied by Palembang Mayor Harnojoyo and Deputy Chairperson of the South Sumatra DPRD, Giri Ramanda M. Kiemas.
Meanwhile, the Director of Road Traffic at the Ministry of Transportation, Suharto, said that there were 26 units of LRT feeder angkot that would be operated across the five routes.
The facilities in the angkot car, he said, are the same as LRT feeder angkot which was launched in June 2022, namely equipped with air conditioning facilities (AC), surveillance cameras, GPS, and non-cash payment equipment (tap-cash).
He conveyed that the angkot feeder had contributed quite a large amount to the increase in the number of passengers on the Palembang LRT, which was recorded at 36 percent of the 7,625 LRT passengers on weekdays and on weekends as many as 8,850 passengers as of August 26, 2022.
"For the number of passengers on the angkot feeder itself as of July 7-26 August 2022, there were 105,709 people recorded, this is proof that the existence of this angkot is really useful for the community because of the difference, this ankot reaches passengers to enter residential areas, which are far from the city center," he said.
