JAKARTA - India's air force without mercy immediately fired three officers for accidentally firing cruise missiles at neighboring Pakistan.

The air force in a statement acknowledged the "storage of Standard Operations Procedures by three officers led to the accidental firing of missiles" into Pakistan.

"These three officers are primarily responsible for the incident. They have been stopped by the Central Government immediately," the statement said.

The BrahMos cruise missile was fired from India on March 9. The missile landed in Pakistan's eastern losing, approximately 125 kilometers (78 miles) within Pakistan, breaking walls in residential areas. No casualties or injuries were reported.

Pakistani officials demanded an explanation from New Delhi and called the launch a "significant violation" of the country's airspace.
