PPATK Wants Punishment For Money Launderers To Be Tightened

JAKARTA - The Center for Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis (PPATK) said the eradication of the crime of Money Laundering (TPPU) which was carried out in one unit with cyber crime through digital technology required the efforts and synergy of all parties.

"The vulnerabilities of money laundering offenses along with cybercrime are due to anonymity, limited monitoring and licensing, geographic or jurisdictional risks to the complexity of money laundering schemes," said Head of Public Relations and Public Relations Bureau of PPATK Muhammad Novian in a webinar entitled Trends and Challenges of Anti Money Laundering in the Digital Era by OJK. In dealing with this crime, Novian said that it is necessary to increase public awareness, increase the level of reporting, increase the competence of law enforcement officers, and increase penalties for perpetrators.

According to him, the authorities also need to increase the time of investigation or investigation related to this crime case, and increase the personnel of law enforcement officers.

"The level of punishment for those who have been sentenced needs to be increased so that the perpetrators are deterred," said Novian.

According to him, the weakest point is in the human aspect, where all parties, both the community and stakeholders, need training related to money laundering and cyber crimes.

In fact, continued Novian, a special high tech cyber crime unit is needed to deal with this crime.

In the use of digital technology, PPATK asks each individual to ensure that there is an antivirus on the device used, be careful of strange links, be careful of wifi and public computers.

In addition, it also uses strong passwords, uses a firewall when you want to make transactions, and does not list anything on a network.

Novian said that eradicating this crime requires cooperation at the national and international levels. According to him, PPATK, regulators and law enforcement must work together by strengthening the law and its enforcement, especially at the cybercrime level.
