In Addition To 23 Illegal Cosmetics, BPOM Finds Dozens Of Products Without Expired Labels

NTT - A total of 23 illegal cosmetic products were secured from Pasar Reo, West Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province (NTT) during a two-day operation, August 24-25, 2022.

This illegal cosmetic operation was carried out by the Center for Drug and Food Control (BPOM) through the West Manggarai POM Workshop in collaboration with the police.

"From the illegal cosmetic operations at Pasar Reo on six cosmetic distribution facilities, officers found 23 types of illegal cosmetics with a value of tens of millions of rupiah," said Head of the West Manggarai POM Loka Andirusmin Nuryadin, quoted from Antara, Thursday, August 25.

He said the illegal cosmetic products included lipstick and skin whitening cream.

Nuryadin explained that the cosmetic products confiscated in Reo District did not have a distribution permit. Of the six facilities that became the location of the operation, there was one perpetrator who was processed according to the applicable law.

"The perpetrator has committed a criminal act of distributing pharmaceutical preparations in the form of cosmetics without a distribution permit which violates Health Law No. 36 Article 197," he said.

In a different place, the Loka POM Manggarai Barat team also found a facility that sells branded cosmetic products but removes the product expiration label. In addition there are dozens of expired products were also found.

He said, facilities that sell cosmetics by removing expired labels by removing or cutting will be subject to Law no. 8 of 1999 concerning Consumer Protection articles 8 and 9 in conjunction with article 62 with a five-year prison sentence and a fine of two billion rupiah.

The West Manggarai POM Loka Team strengthened socialization related to intelligent choice of drug and food products and formed a team of Cosmetics Ambassadors to expand the scope of socialization.

For sellers, the West Manggarai POM Loka Team provides education on how to choose the right cosmetics so that the products they sell are safe.

"For the perpetrators who are indicated to be naughty, a legal process will be carried out to account for their actions as a deterrent effect as well as an example to other drug and food criminals so that they stop immediately before being caught in surgery," he said.

He appealed to the public to check packaging, labels, distribution permits, and expirations or often abbreviated as Cek Klik before buying a product. It is important for public safety.
