Anies Inaugurates Flats For Bukit Duri Residents Affected By Ahok Era's Evictions

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan inaugurated the Cakung Growing Productive Flats for the residents of Bukit Duri who were affected by the eviction due to the river normalization program under the former Governor of DKI Jakarta, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) in 2016.

This rental apartment is located on Jalan Kavling DPR Kampung Pulo Jahe, Jatinegara, Cakung, East Jakarta.

"The Cakung Growing Productive Flats, today, Thursday 25 August 2022, are officially declared to be used," said Anies when inaugurating the Cakung Growing Productive Flats, Thursday, August 25.

This flat, which has been under construction since October 2021, has several towers with different paint colors for each tower. One flat unit measuring 36 square meters. Inside, there are two rooms, one bathroom and one living room.

On that occasion, Anies stated that the determination of the location for the construction of the flat was carried out in consultation with the residents of Bukit Duri. So, the flats built in Cakung have been in accordance with the wishes of the residents.

"We continue to discuss where the location is. So, it's not like we just pointed out a place. Until finally it was decided at this location, in making decisions we also calculated the distance, travel time, general vehicles," said Anies.

Anies underlined that the work of providing housing that involves the community is important before building construction is carried out.

Although the relocation of residential areas must be carried out to support infrastructure development, Anies admitted that he did not want to use coercion on residents affected by evictions to be able to occupy their new homes.

"It is impossible to avoid in the construction of a city, where the government must build toll roads, must build LRT, there must be relocation. It is impossible that there will be no relocation," explained Anies.

"What I say is, don't repeat coercion and violence. But if it's relocation, it's impossible for a city development in the future without relocation. But the relocation is done well, with communication, with good planning, and it can be done, " he added.
