The Case Of A Water Slide That Collapsed, The Owner And 2 Managers Of Kenpark Surabaya Became Suspects

SURABAYA - The Tanjung Perak Surabaya Police have named three suspects in the crash of a water slide at Kenjaran Park (Kenpark) Surabaya. The three suspects are the Operations Manager with the initials SB, the General Manager with the initials PS, and the 'Owner' or owner of Kenjeran Park with the initials ST.

"We have named three suspects, namely the owner of Kenpark and two managers of Kenpark tourism," said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of Tanjung Perak Port Surabaya Police, AKP Arief Wicaksana, in Surabaya, Tuesday, August 23.

Arief emphasized that the three suspects, the people most responsible for the sledding accident, at Kenpark Surabaya on Saturday, May 7, 2022. As a result of the incident, 17 visitors consisting of children were injured. There were no casualties in the incident.

"The investigation process has followed procedures. For example, we made a summons but the person concerned asked for a delay, according to the procedure, we must follow it," he said.

Arief said that a number of Kenpark Management officials when summoned for questioning by the police always argued that they were still busy dealing with the victims. "The reason is still busy pacing to the hospital and to the houses of the victims," he said.

Due to their frequent absences from police calls, investigators finally named three suspects, based on statements from witnesses, experts and clues to evidence. Arief explained that the water slide that collapsed was caused by something fragile.

"During the operation, only two treatments were carried out," he said.

According to him, soon the file will be transferred to the Prosecutor's Office. Just waiting for the complete information from suspect ST, who promised to fulfill the police summons on Thursday, August 25 the day after tomorrow.

"If the Kenpark owner keeps his promise, then the case file is complete so that it can be immediately transferred to the Prosecutor's Office. Next, we just have to wait for friends from the Prosecutor's Office to declare P21," he said.

The suspects were charged with Article 8 paragraph 1 of Law Number 8 of 1999 concerning Consumer Protection and/or Article 360 of the Criminal Code (KUHP). However, the three suspects were not arrested, the reason being that they were cooperative.
