Reported To Polda Metro Jaya After Speech 'Envelope Kiai', PPP Chairman Suharso Monoarfa: It's Just A Misunderstanding

JAKARTA - The chairman of the United Development Party (PPP) Suharso Monoarfa, responded to his report to the Jakarta Metro Police following his speech that called "the kiai envelope" while attending an event at the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

Suharso assessed that the report was only a misunderstanding of the reporter. Because according to him, he made his statement at the PPP's internal forum with the KPK.

"Yes, it's just their misunderstanding. Later there will be a party attitude. It's an internal event, right," said Suharso after attending a plenary meeting on the 2023 RAPBN at the DPR building, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday, August 23.

Previously, Suharso Monoarfa was reported to the Polda Metro Jaya following his speech which alluded to the 'kyai's envelope' so that it was considered a blasphemy of religion.

"I as his legal representative (reported) the alleged criminal act of insulting the kiai related to what Mr. Suharso said when he gave a speech at the KPK event," said the reporter's attorney, Ali Jufri to reporters, Monday, August 22.

The reporter in this case is someone named Ari Kurniawan. The reason for the report was said to be because Suharso's words demeaned the figure of kiai and pesantren.

"This is a form of insult to kiai and pesantren where this pesantren educates the new generation to become the future generation. But when there is a statement this is not good," he said.

The report is registered with the number LP/B/428/VII/2022/SPKT/Polda Metro Jaya, dated 20 August 2022. Several pieces of evidence are included, for example, a recording of Suharso's speech about the 'kyai envelope'.

In the report, Suharso was reported to have violated Article 156 and/or Article 156 A of the Criminal Code regarding hate speech and or blasphemy against a religion.
