MADIUN - Members of the Madiun Police Criminal Investigation Unit arrested a lottery gambling coupon retailer with the initials SNT and confiscated a number of evidences at a shop he owned, Sidorejo Village, Madiun Regency, East Java.

"This suspect used to receive a tombokan deposit or purchase a lottery gambling number from residents at his shop via WA messages. Furthermore, the tombokan deposit was forwarded to collectors who are currently under investigation," said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of Madiun Police AKP Danang Eko Abrianto as reported by ANTARA, Monday, 22 August.

According to Danang, the arrest of the lottery gambling retailer originated from public information about the practice of lottery gambling in the stalls.

"Previously, officers received information from residents about the existence of lottery-type gambling conducted by SNT in a shop that belonged to him. After that the officers made arrests," he said.

Based on the confession of the suspect SNT, the money from the sale of the lottery number was then deposited to a collector with the initials AR, who is still being investigated by the police.

"According to the results of the examination, the daily turnover of lottery sales reaches hundreds of thousands of rupiah. However, this is still being investigated further," he said.

From the suspect's hands, the police secured a cellphone used by the suspect for transactions and Rp216 thousand in cash.

The suspect is threatened with punishment as stipulated in Article 303 of the Criminal Code paragraph (1) regarding the crime of gambling with a threat of 10 years in prison.

The ranks of the Madiun Police Criminal Investigation Unit are intensively eradicating cases of community disease, including gambling, which is currently a serious concern. In addition to disturbing the public, gambling is also against the law.
