JAKARTA - Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Ahmad Riza Patria said that the cause of the fire at the inn at Putri Duyung Cottage, Ancol, North Jakarta, was still being investigated.

"The Ancol fire is not yet known, it is still in the process of being investigated with the police," said Riza at the Jakarta City Hall as reported by ANTARA, Monday, August 22.

Deputy Governor Riza said Ancol Taman Impian is also currently taking inventory of the losses caused by the fire which scorched three lodging units and two cars belonging to the occupants.

However, Riza ensured that the incident that occurred on Sunday (22/8), did not cause any casualties.

"Now the losses are being calculated and there are no casualties," he said.

As previously reported, a fire broke out at the Putri Duyung Ancol resort, Pademangan, North Jakarta on Sunday (21/8) evening.

The fire destroyed three of the 127 lodging units, namely the Pope Suite 100, Pope Suite 200 and Pope Suite 300.

In addition, the fire also scorched three occupants' cars.

Corporate Communications Ancol Taman Impian Ariyadi Eko Nugroho explained that the fire initially started on the second floor of Paus Suite 100 which eventually spread to the two lodging units next to it.

The fire that started at 17.00 WIB, said Eko, could be extinguished at 18.00 WIB with the deployment of 20 fire engines.

He also ensured that this disaster did not result in injuries or fatalities.

Meanwhile, Commissioner of Ancol Taman Impian Geisz Chalifah revealed the fact that the Pope's Cottage which burned on Sunday (21/8) afternoon was indeed old and should be fully rehabilitated immediately.

"This whale cottage is indeed a bit old. There are already plans for rehabilitation but have not had time," he said when confirmed.

The total rehabilitation plan has actually been around for a long time, but luxury inns in northern Jakarta have not been restored due to the COVID-19 pandemic which has caused Ancol to lose income.

"We've been wanting to renovate for a long time, but the pandemic situation has not been possible because during the pandemic we were still saving the company first," he said.

Before it was completely rehabilitated, the building was devoured by the red rooster on Sunday (21/8).

Gaisz also said that Ancol would re-build Pope Cottage with a better building.

"We will rebuild in a better condition, because this 'cottage' is old and should have been rehabilitated from last year," he said.
