The Revision Of The BPK Law Is Judged Only To Preserve Power

JAKARTA - The Center for Budget Analysis (CBA) strongly opposes the planned revision of Law (UU) No. 15 of 2006 concerning the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK). CBA suspects that the revision will only benefit certain groups, especially BPK officials whose terms of office will expire next year.

"The target of revising this law is for his own benefit, Agung (Chairman of the BPK, Agung Firman Sampurna). So that he will be re-elected at the BPK. His term of office will expire in 2022," said CBA Executive Director Uchok Sky Khadafi in his statement, Thursday November 19.

According to Uchok, the current revision of the BPK Law is not too urgent. Moreover, the proposed revisions to the BPK Law are partial and not comprehensive.

According to Uchok, this actually damaged BPK's spirit as state auditor. Therefore, this proposed revision must be rejected.

"I think the proposed revision of the BPK Law must be prevented and not passed. This is an individual's hidden agenda to perpetuate his power," he said.

Based on information circulating, the Chairman of the BPK, Agung Firman Sampurna and Deputy Chairman Agus Joko Pramono became the initiators of the revision of the BPK Law. In fact, both have met with the DPR Baleg at Hotel Mulia Jakarta to include the agenda for revising the BPK Law on the agenda of the DPR Baleg.

The four points proposed for the revision, namely the age limit for being a member of the BPK is written as 70 years, the 2 times period as stated in the BPK Law is removed, BPK members are selected collectively collegial and the BPK may manage their own budget.

Uchok assessed that the substance of the revision of the BPK Law which was only related to 4 points was not very important. This resulted in no progress for the BPK going forward.

Based on Article 5 (1) of the Law on BPK, it is stated that BPK members hold office for five years and after that they can be re-elected for one term of office.

Uchok indicated that the proposed revision of the BPK Law was aimed at perpetuating the power of BPK's power hungry individuals. Therefore, all children of the nation are obliged to maintain the spirit of the BPK so as not to become a shelter for elderly parents.

"If this revision is accommodated, the future BPK will be filled with elderly people," he said.

Uchok reiterated that the proposed revision of the 2-term term limitation should be rejected. This is very dangerous for the future of the CPC.

"Later the BPK will be filled by the same person. The time is that they want to become BPK officials until they die. So, it must be prevented, not accommodating the revision of the BPK Law," he explained.

Furthermore, Uchok said that if you want to revise the BPK Law you must be objective based on the institutional needs of the BPK.

"Don't bring your own or group's interests. That is not allowed," he concluded.
