MADIUN - Officers from the Madiun Youth Prison, East Java arrested Barta Bima Rachmawan, a narcotics courier who smuggled crystal methamphetamine with a slingshot.
The Head of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights in East Java, Zaeroji, said that Barta's illegal actions were caught by prison officials. The resident of Pulerejo Village, Madiun Regency was arrested after his escape attempt was thwarted by officers by crashing a garbage cart.
"It happened on Monday afternoon (8/8), around 11.00 WIB," said Zaeroji as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, August 10.
The throwing of the methamphetamine package with a slingshot was carried out from around the official residence of the employee who was behind the prison.
One of the officers named Lukman who was on duty outside the prison reprimanded Barta. However, instead of stopping, Barta even tried to run away using a motorbike.
Hearing Lukman's shout, another Madiun Youth Prison officer named Zafero who was on duty to carry out the escort reacted.
At that time, Zafero was escorting inmates who were following the hygiene assimilation program around the prison.
"That's when Zafero reacted by crashing the trash cart beside him into the target," said Zaeroji.
As a result, Barta fell from the red motorbike he was driving. The officers immediately arrested Barta and confiscated evidence in the form of a slingshot he was carrying. In addition, the officers then checked the items thrown by Barta.
"He confessed and gave indications that the items he threw were wrapped in purple plastic," explained Zaeroji.
Head of the Madiun Youth Headquarters, Ardian Nova, explained that prison officers immediately carried out a sweep to ensure that the items that Barta had thrown were using a slingshot. It can take up to 2.5 hours to find the items around the church area in prison.
"The items that were thrown were only found around 13.30 WIB under a banana tree near the prison church," said Ardian Nova.
Nova explained that his party contacted the Madiun City Police Satreskoba for further handling.
Head of Reskoba AKP Eka Supriyadi, who came to the prison, inspected the package that was thrown. After conducting a crime scene investigation and inspection, the package contained items suspected of being methamphetamine.
"The package contained items suspected of being narcotics in the form of a package of methamphetamine weighing 0.67 grams wrapped in purple plastic along with stone weights," Nova said.
The suspect is now in police custody. The case is still being investigated further in order to reveal the drug orderer who was thrown into the prison with a slingshot.
