Sexual Harassment Shocking, DPRD Urges Transjakarta To Place Officers On Bus Again

JAKARTA - Member of Commission B of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Gilbert Simenjuntak, urged PT Transjakarta to place PJLP officers on their buses again. This is in response to cases of alleged sexual harassment that are currently circulating on social media.

Several years ago, there was always an officer on duty on the bus managed by this BUMD in the transportation sector. However, during the pandemic, the number of Transjakarta employees was cut. Thus, there is only a driver who drives each bus and until now the officers on the buses have not been added again.

"In the past, there was a PJLP on every Transjakarta bus. In the past, it was still in the era of the previous governor. Now it has been removed. Given the current conditions, it would be better if it was held again," Gilbert said when contacted, Friday, July 29.

When the officers were put back on the bus, Gilbert saw cases of sexual harassment, and even Transjakarta bus accidents could be minimized.

Gilbert admits that the subsidy budget from the APBD for Transjakarta expenses will be bigger because they have to pay the salaries of the additional employees. However, this needs to be done in order to maintain the safety and security of passengers.

"If it is held, maybe it will be more orderly and people will see it more. Indeed, it will be a burden on the APBD. But, with so many problems, there are run-ins, harassment, I think we have to bear the costs. With such a large amount, like it or not , we pay for it," said Gilbert.

As is known, sexual harassment has occurred again in public transportation and this time it was located on one of the TransJakarta buses. The perpetrators took advantage of the momentum of the crowded vehicles to carry out their actions. The video uploaded to the Instagram account @lensa_berita_jakarta, as reported by Antara, showed the atmosphere inside the TransJakarta bus which was full of passengers. The camera caught someone's finger playing between the legs of a passenger. By taking advantage of the density of people, the perpetrator used his hand to feel the thigh of another passenger nearby.

"It is suspected that another act of harassment occurred on the TransJakarta Bus route 3F (Kalideres-GBK), Monday, July 25, 2022," wrote @lensa_berita_jakarta as the caption for his upload. The account also stated that the bus was full and the victim was standing near the bus door. there is an elderly man. Maybe if the bus is crowded at first, you think maybe the bus is braking and accidentally 'body contact'," wrote the account. In the video, the suspect's hand looks like he is trying to touch the victim's thigh from behind. But he acted as if he accidentally touched it due to the shaking on the bus and the crowded conditions of the passengers.

The victim then got off at the Senayan Roundabout Stop and immediately reported the alleged sexual harassment experienced to the officers. The perpetrator was also said to have been arrested but he still argued. Meanwhile, the abuse experienced is said to have traumatized the victim.
