Former Riau Governor Annas Maamun Sentenced To 1 Year In Prison

PEKANBARU - Former Riau Governor Annas Maamun was sentenced to one year in prison and a fine of Rp. 100 million by the panel of judges for Corruption Crimes (Tipikor) in a trial at the Pekanbaru District Court (PN).

The sentence decided by the panel of judges is reduced by the period of detention that has been served by the defendant. In addition, Annas was also required to pay a fine of Rp. 100 million, a subsidiary to imprisonment for two months.

"The defendant was proven legally and convincingly guilty of committing a criminal act of corruption together, as the first alternative indictment," said Chief Justice Dahlan when reading out the verdict, reported by ANTARA, Thursday, July 28.

The man who is familiarly called Atuk Annas was found guilty of bribery in the ratification of the 2014 Riau Province Revised RAPBD and 2015 RAPBD.

Annas Maamun who took part in the virtual session from the Class II A detention center was proven to have legally violated Article 5 Letter A, Law Number 31 of 1999, as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001, concerning the eradication of criminal acts of corruption, junto Article 55 paragraph 1 to -1 of the Criminal Code.

The verdict handed down by the panel of judges is lower than the demands of the KPK Public Prosecutor (JPU). Previously, Annas Maamun was sentenced to two years in prison and a fine of Rp. 150 million.

For this verdict, Annas Maamun thanked the panel of judges and resigned himself to accepting the verdict handed down to him. In contrast to the prosecutor who stated that he would think about this decision.

Attorney Atuk Annas Maman said that his party hoped that there would be no other legal action by the Public Prosecutor because the defendant had no exceptions and delayed the trial.

"Even though he is sick, he still wants to attend the trial. He has not missed a single trial, and there has been no trial delay because of that. For Annas' condition in his old age, Maman said, he needs oxygen to breathe. fine. So oxygen and medicine must be ready," he concluded.

The Panel of Judges gave the Public Prosecutor seven days to file an appeal before this decision was declared legally binding.
