2 Districts In Jember Affected By The Eruption Of Mount Raung

JEMBER - A total of two sub-districts in Jember Regency, East Java were affected by the eruption of Mount Raung which occurred on Wednesday, July 27 afternoon, in the form of thin volcanic ash rain in the local area.

"We received reports that in two villages in two sub-districts, namely Ledokombo and Sumberjambe sub-districts, volcanic ash rained", said Jember Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Secretary, Heru Widagdo, as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, July 28.

He explained that the volcanic ash from Mount Raung fell slightly in Gunungmalang Village, Sumberjambe District, and Sumbersalak Village, Ledokombo District, but did not last long.

"The rain of volcanic ash that flushed two villages in the two sub-districts was based on the direction of the wind that carried the eruption material of Mount Raung, but today it is no longer there", he said.

The ash rain that fell on Jember was not too significant because the wind direction was easy to change.

However, his party appealed to residents to remain aware of the possibility of further eruptions.

"Based on the information we received, the status of Mount Raung as of Thursday was recorded as normal or level 1, so there has not been an increase in the status of the volcano", he said.

Heru appealed to residents to wear masks if at any time there was a follow-up Mount Raung eruption because volcanic ash can cause respiratory problems.

The volcano which has a height of 3,332 meters above sea level (masl) erupted on Wednesday, July 27, at 17.19 to 17:28 WIB four times with a height of 1,500 meters.

Based on data from the Mount Raung Observation Post officer in Banyuwangi, the activity of Mount Raung on Wednesday, July 27, during the period from 00.00-24.00 WIB was visually monitored as the volcano was clear and covered in fog, then the crater smoke was not observed.

Seismic activity recorded four eruptions with an amplitude of 24-32 mm for 71-173 seconds, seven gusts with an amplitude of 2-11 mm for 19-57 seconds, eight distant tectonic earthquakes with an amplitude of 3-28 mm for 19-47 seconds, and continuous tremors with a dominant amplitude of 0.5 mm.
