JK Talks About The Importance Of PMI In Maintaining Public Trust

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) Jusuf Kalla spoke about the importance of maintaining public trust.

"The determination to build community resilience will continue to be carried out by PMI so that Indonesia rises stronger from the COVID-19 pandemic. According to JK, as he is familiarly called, PMI must continue to build synergy with the community and collaborate with various parties in increasing Indonesia's resilience. PMI professionally manages the organization to provide excellent service to the community.

Red Cross services must always be at the forefront and of high quality and carried out professionally, to support this, of course, PMI is supported by trained human resources according to the service sector.

As the largest humanitarian organization in Indonesia, PMI must grow to carry out organizational transformation in order to adapt to various challenges in humanitarian services. As in dealing with COVID-19, his party moved quickly in taking strategic steps to assist the government.

The year 2020, he said, is the first year of PMI's management for the 2019-2024 period, for that he invites all his staff to continue to foster a spirit of solidarity for humanity. In the following year, still in the midst of a pandemic situation, PMI always tries to provide the best service by moving together for others.

All that can be done if there is synergy, partnership and cooperation with various stakeholders. Then 2021 is the year of strengthening PMI's synergy and collaboration in the Red Cross movement.

No less than 21 program collaborations were established with various parties during the year. A total of 10 movement partners consistently support the implementation of the Red Cross.

This partnership with stakeholders emphasizes the liaison function, PMI as a humanitarian institution with communities in need. Therefore, maintaining the trust of partners and the public is very important in carrying out the Red Cross movement.

"Donors donate resources to communities in need through PMI, then PMI distributes them to the community through service programs according to the needs of the affected communities," he added, quoted from Antara.

JK said the various programs implemented with the support of these partners had reached 102,025 people during 2021. There were at least six national-scale aid and service operations. These disasters are three earthquakes, one flood, one cyclone and one volcanic eruption.

Meanwhile, in helping the government so that Indonesia can recover quickly from COVID-19, PMI deployed 1,572 vaccination interpreters. No less than 1.1 million people are served in the vaccination program of the Indonesian Ministry of Health. In general, PMI's health services are estimated to have reached 1.8 million people this year.

The PMI 2022 Mukernas with the theme "The Red Cross Movement for Advanced Indonesia" was attended by 68 representatives from 34 regional PMIs.

In addition, there were also movement partners from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and a number of red cross groups from friendly countries such as Australia, Turkey and the American Red Cross (Amcross).
