Lampung Proposes KH Ahmad Hanafiah To Be A National Hero

LAMPUNG - The Lampung Provincial Government (Pemprov) proposed KH Ahmad Hanafiah to be one of the national heroes from Lampung.

"The proposal for the title of National Hero is a form of response to suggestions from organizations or the community," said Deputy Governor of Lampung Chusnunia Chalim, at the National Seminar on Proposed National Hero Titles KH Ahmad Hanafiah, in Bandarlampung, Antara, Wednesday, July 27.

He said that through the proposal, it was hoped that Lampung Province would be bigger and known through its hero figures.

"Hopefully the nomination of the title of national hero can run smoothly, and more and more people will know Lampung and its history," he said.

He hopes that with the National Seminar and the proposed title of national hero for one of the heroes of Lampung, it can be a momentum to increase the sense of love for the homeland, care and togetherness by adopting the fighting spirit of the heroes.

"KH Ahmad Hanafiah is one of the Lampung figures who participated in the struggle to defend Indonesia's independence, so this proposal is indeed worthy of being given," he said.

KH Ahmad Hanafiah was born in 1905 in Sukadana District, East Lampung Regency which was then part of Central Lampung Regency. In defending Indonesia's independence, KH Ahmad Hanafiah founded a fighter organization called Laskar Hezbollah as a forum for paramilitary education for santri.

Some of the experiences he had during the Japanese colonial period, being a member of the Chuo Sangi Kai (Regional Advisory Council) at the Lampung Residency in 1945-1946.

In addition, he also became the Chairman of the Masyumi Party, the leader of Hezbollah Kewedanan Sukadana and subsequently became a member of the Lampung Residency DPR in 1946-1947.

In an effort to defend independence from Dutch aggression before August 17, 1947 at the Komering Front, Baturaja, South Sumatra, KH Ahmad Hanafiah died on the battlefield.
