JAKARTA - Mayor of Surabaya Eri Cahyadi dismissed "Tunjungan Fashion Week" on Jalan Tunjungan Kota Pahlawan, Sunday, July 24 yesterday. Eri wants road users to be comfortable and not create traffic jams.

"Yesterday (25/7), we stopped the activity, not about not being pro-creation or pro-creation typical of young people. According to him, similar programs can be carried out, for example during car free day (CFD) activities, as a show of fashion creations for young people in Surabaya.

In addition, it can also be held at Balai Pemuda and various green open spaces, while maintaining cleanliness and not damaging the park. Or also on pedestrians with a scheduled and licensed concept so that it can be arranged so as not to reduce the comfort of the wider community.

So, he continued, this kind of creation does not cause traffic jams because it is done during CFD and in non-road public spaces.

"Please be creative. However, you must continue to inspire, ojok pating pecoto and sing chaotic (not tight and open clothes), must also reflect the distinctive character of Arek Suroboyo," he said quoted from Antara.

Eri said, on Jalan Tunjungan itself, since November 2021 the concept of "Tunjungan Romansa" has been launched as a space for the creation of art, culture, and the creative economy. Music, fashion, culinary, and various creations merge at Tunjungan Romansa. Some are conceptualized in pedestrian areas, but they are organized and do not interfere with road users.

Regarding fashion, the Surabaya City Government has also facilitated various performances, including regularly displaying local brands and MSMEs, through Surabaya Fashion Week and many more.

Fashion design training is also carried out in order to grow reliable designers from Surabaya.

"In fact, we are preparing a fashion writing workshop, so that fashion trends in Surabaya can be spread widely and inspire through good communication models," he said.

The Surabaya Satpol PP previously disbanded the fashion show on Jalan Tunjungan with the theme "Tunjungan Fashion Week" which imitated the Citayam Fashion Week in Jakarta on Sunday (24/7). This step was taken because they were considered disrupting the flow of traffic.

There are two points on Jalan Tunjungan that serve as a fashion show venue, namely the zebra cross in front of a private bank, Jalan Tunjungan and the zebra cross in front of the Ketandan Gang to Jalan Genteng.
