JAKARTA - The European Union (EU) intends to invite more students from its member countries to come to study in Indonesia, according to EU Ambassador to Indonesia Vincent Piket at a pre-departure briefing for Erasmus+ EU scholarship recipients in Jakarta, Saturday.
Piket hopes that scholarship recipients who will study in Europe can become ambassadors for the country and can promote various natural resources and dynamic development in Indonesia.
“We also want to promote (opportunities) for European students to come to Indonesia. We haven't reached the numbers we wanted but we hope that when you all go there, you can tell them about Indonesia," he said.
He hopes that by doing so, the number of European students who come to study in Indonesia can increase.
This will also contribute to cooperation in the field of education between Indonesia and the European Union, especially for the younger generation, which he calls an important part of the development of one country.
"This is also the reason why we are happy to work with the Government of Indonesia, including through the scheme we have between the Erasmus program and the Government's Merdeka Campus program," he said.
He added that the cooperation is a reflection of the joint efforts between the two parties to build society and the economy and promote a green economy.
A total of 210 students and lecturers from Indonesia will go to Europe and study as Erasmus+ scholarship recipients in the 2022 academic year. They, who come from 14 provinces in Indonesia, will study at the postgraduate level.
As for the 210 participants, as many as 91 people received the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master's scholarship.
