SURABAYA - A number of Nahdlatul Ulama Regional Managers visited the Muhammadiyah Regional Leadership in East Java to discuss strategic issues in facing the Islamic Awakening in the second millennium.

Deputy Chairperson of the East Java PWNU KH Abdus Salam Shohib said NU would not walk alone in the success of all its activities in society.

"So the meeting with the leadership ranks of PW Muhammadiyah will show the face of Islam, which always prioritizes friendship and ukhuwah or brotherhood," he said after the gathering at the East Java PWM office in Surabaya, as reported by ANTARA, Friday, July 22.

Kiai Salam, as he is familiarly called, said that since 1926 the founders had instilled in NU that NU has always put forward three ukhuwahs, namely Ukhuwah Wathoniyah (brotherhood among nations), Ukhuwah Islamiyah (brotherhood of fellow Muslims) and Ukhuwah Basyariah (brotherhood of fellow human beings).

This kind of friendship, he said, had become part of the behavior of NU and Muhammadiyah leaders in the past.

"Alhamdulillah, the meeting was fun and very friendly. Enthusiasm in strengthening the harmony of two moderate Islamic organizations in Indonesia will create strength within the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia," he said.

Accompanying Kiai Salam were several other administrators, such as Deputy Secretary Hasan Ubaidillah and two Deputy Treasurers M Amin Mujib and Rasidi.

Meanwhile, from Muhammadiyah, it was received directly by the Chairperson of the East Java PWM, KH Saad Ibrahim along with several other leaders.

During the meeting, he said, an agreement was reached to continue talks on strategic issues.

"We are also aware of the need to establish cooperation to face the Islamic Awakening in the second millennium, between NU and Muhammadiyah," said the Mambaul Maarif Islamic Boarding School Supervisor Denanyar Jombang and Chair of the NU One Century Committee.

Kiai Salam also discussed the "Kick Off" activity in the NU Centenary Commemoration series which will be held at the Surabaya Heroes Monument on July 28, 2022.

His party hopes for the support of PW Muhammadiyah and other Islamic organizations, especially the narrative about One Century of NU during the event.
