Requesting The Kudatuli Incident To Be Thoroughly Investigated, PDIP: Intellectual Actors Must Be Punished

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) has urged the case of the attack on its office on July 27, 1996, known as the Twenty-seventh July Coup Incident or Kudatuli, to be thoroughly investigated. Intellectual actors must be held accountable for their actions.

This was conveyed by the Secretary General of PDIP Hasto Kristiyanto in the Public Discussion Commemorating the 26th Anniversary of the 27 July Incident which was held at the PDIP DPP office on Jalan Diponegoro 58, Menteng, Central Jakarta today, Thursday, July 21.

"We will look for every available space. So we ask the Indonesian Democracy Defender Team for continued assistance, we will look for every gap in justice, every space for fair law enforcement," Hasto said at the event.

"We will continue to build optimism for us by building common strength, in the end whoever became the intellectual actors against the attack by the Indonesian Democratic Party at that time, must be prosecuted before the law so that justice can truly be served," he continued.

PDIP still remembers the attack to forcibly take the party office building which was occupied by a supporter of Megawati Soekarnoputri, who was the general chairman. Hasto called the Kudatuli incident a history that teaches that authoritarian rule will not last long.

"That's why Ibu Mega, her message on this commemoration, reminds us that by going down, uniting with the people's power, crying and laughing with the people, it is actually understanding the most basic essence of political power that comes from the people," he said.

Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the PDIP DPP Ribka Tjiptaning said the Kudatuli incident is like a chronic disease that has not been cured until now. So, he went to Komnas HAM some time ago to ask for an explanation.

Rebekah also said that the Kudatuli incident is a gray history. Moreover, Komnas HAM officially released only five people who died even though many are still missing until now.

"In the past, there was a woman with a cleft palate. I saw someone was stabbed with a bayonet. The mother was later no longer there. Where? There is also a friend of mine missing, until now, she has not been found," said Rebekah.

"Don't forget July 27th," he said.

Next, member of the Indonesian Democracy Defender Team (TPDI) Trimedya Panjaitan asked the power holders in the DPR and the Executive to encourage the completion of the Kudatuli incident. Do not let the intellectual actor of the attack go unpunished for his actions.

"We have to talk about law enforcement, not just reconciliation, but we still want the July 27 case to be thoroughly investigated," he said.

"His intellectual brain, whoever he is, the law must not be sharp down and blunt up. The law must not only side with people who have power," added the member of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the PDIP faction.
